The sewing room had gotten into quite a chaotic mess and I was feeling like I couldn’t focus in there. I have many methods of organizing things I need for sewing so I thought tidying shouldn’t take too long even with a mess like this:

And this:

And so I spent the better part of a rainy day shifting and tidying and now it looks like this:

And this:

I know it still looks like there’s a lot of stuff out on horizontal surfaces, but for sewing I need ready access to all these things so this is where they live and where I want them. Some organizational helps that I really adore:
- The Lazy Susan-style rotating storage cubbies on my cutting table that are accessible from my seated position at the machines as well as when I’m standing at the cutting table. I bought those at JoAnn’s and while they are not the highest quality (they drag a bit when rotated) they serve the purpose of keeping many tools close to hand and easy to access but still contained.
- The round silicone bobbin holders hanging on the wall behind my machine.
- A nice weighted dispenser for Scotch Tape.
- Rolling sticky lint removers. Wow, I use these things ALL the time on my ironing board, on the padded June Tailor Cut’ N Press board you can’t see to the right of my machine, on myself after I’ve been sewing and before I leave the room, and basically on any fabric thing that can collect dust or threads. I can count 3 of them in the picture above because I know where they live.
On to the real work of sewing up some things.
